W. Patrick Dougherty

Patrick Dougherty was named executive editor of the Anchorage Daily News in October 1998. He started working at the Daily News in 1980 as the first editor of We Alaskans, the newspaper's Sunday magazine.

Dougherty edited "A People in Peril," the series for which the Daily News won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for Public Service. He was one of 12 U.S. journalists selected for the Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University for the 1988-89 school year. Before joining the News, he worked as a consultant on commercial fishing issues for the Alaska Legislature, co-owned an alternative weekly newspaper based in Anchorage and wrote sports for The Anchorage Times. He received a degree in journalism from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1974.
