Griffin Smith

Griffin Smith is a man of diverse talents and interests. Smith has a law degree from University of Texas School of Law (1969) and held political jobs in the 1970s such as speechwriter to the President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and various positions for the State of Texas. He practiced law from 1981-1992.
At the same time (1978-1992), he was a freelance writer for magazines such as National Geographic, Texas Monthly, Saturday Review, and Atlantic Monthly and served as travel editor for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He has won numerous national awards for his travel writing.
In 1992 Smith was named executive editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and he calls it, "the best job in journalism." He was a Media Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University in 2006. He also keeps his standing current with the State Bar Associations in Arkansas and Texas.
